Agusta Eh101

The AgustaWestland AW101, known as Merlin and marketed as EH101 until 2007, is a medium-lift helicopter developed by Westland Helicopters and Agusta in the 1980s. Faced with the evolving technology of Soviet submarines, the widely used Westland Sea King helicopters proved insufficient for defense forces. Consequently, the UK Ministry of Defence issued a requirement for a modern ASW (Anti-Submarine Warfare) helicopter. Initially considering separate plans, Westland and Agusta later discussed the joint development of a new aircraft.

The EH101, compared to its predecessors, incorporated more advanced technologies while maintaining a conventional design layout. It was made available with the Rolls-Royce Turbomeca RTM322 or General Electric CT7 engines. The first model flew in 1987 and entered production in 1999. The EH101 helicopter is utilized in medium-sized transport and utility applications and remains in service for anti-submarine warfare in several countries.
