The Baron line was designed based on its direct predecessor the Beechcraft 95 Travel Air. The new line, and the 55B model incorporated some features to aid performance, such as the fuselage of the Bonanza line, tail control surfaces designed as per the T-34 Mentor military trainer, as well as a tail based on the Beechcraft Debonair. The Beechcraft 55B’s featured new, streamlined, six-cylinder engines.
