The Britten-Norman BN-2 Islander is a light utility and regional airliner, designed and initially produced by Britten-Norman. The firm intended to address the demands for an affordable, twin piston engine aircraft in the aviation market, in the expanding commuter airline sector. Surveys had demonstrated a preference for aircrafts with larger capacity, over more range or speed, resulting in Britten-Norman prioritising payload over these aspects. The Islander remains to be one of the most successful aircrafts is Europe, with over 700 Islanders still in operation. One of the latest variants in the line is the Turbine Islander BN-2T, utilising twin Allison (Rolls Royce) 250-B17C engines.
