The Messerschmitt-Bölkow-Blohm Bo 105 is a light, twin-engine, multi-purpose helicopter. Bölkow started developing the revolutionary hingeless rotor system in the early 1960s, prior to commencing plans for the actual rotorcraft in 1964. The Bo 105 was designed with great focus on maneuverability, as well as achiving higher cruise speeds than its competitors at the time. The hingless rotor was an important innovation in the history of helicopters, attracting plenty of attention from the avionics market. Productions commenced at the recently merged Messerschmitt-Bölkow-Blohm firm, in 1967. The Bo 105 was the first light twin-engine helicopter in the world, and the first rotorcraft that could perform aerobatic maneuvers, starting a brand new era for rotorcrafts produced. The later variant Bo 105 CBS was a lengthened version of the aircraft, intended for utility transport, as well as for medical operations.
