Fairchild Dornier Dornier DO328 Jet

The original Dornier 328 is a twin turboprop commuter airliner, developed and manufactured by Dornier Luftfahrt GmbH. The Do 328 was developed as a response to market research conducted by the firm, indicating a demand for a quiet, easy-to maintain airliner which was able to perform at higher speeds. Dornier designed a short-haul regional aircraft, with a retractable landing gear in order to perform from unprepared runways, powered by twin Pratt and Whitney PW119C engines. Dornier conducted further research after the Do 328 entered service, from which it was evident that creating a turbofan variant would have greater desirability in the market. The design of the original model went through slight modifications, and had been fitted with Pratt & Whitney Canada PW306/9 engines. The Dornier 328JET entered service in 1998.
