The original Hughes Model 500 is a light, versatile civilian and military helicopter. Later, McDonnell Douglas Helicopters re-designated it as the MD 500 when they assumed production responsibilities. The Hughes 500 emerged as a civilian counterpart to the Hughes OH-6 Cayuse. In 1984, McDonnell Douglas acquired Hughes Helicopters and swiftly embarked on developing two new variants, the MD 520N and 530N, both taking their inaugural flights nearly simultaneously. Ultimately, the company determined that the MD 520N’s exclusive production would be more cost-effective. The aircraft featured a ground-breaking innovation in rotorcraft design—the NOTAR system.
Red Box is delighted to present an extensive range of ground power and support equipment for this aircraft, including tugs, ground power units, start power units and more, meticulously tailored to meet the requirements of the McDonnell Douglas MD 520N aircraft.
This includes the popular 701D tug, the RBPS25 continuous power unit, ideal for diagnostic work, pre-flight checks, or continuous powering of equipment during operations without draining the onboard aircraft batteries. Additionally, the RB50A is available for starting the aircraft, helping to prevent hot starts. In our TC3000 range, we also offer a combination of start and continuous power in one unit for McDonnell Douglas MD 520N aircraft.
