Piper Cheyenne 400Ls Pa42

The Piper PA-42 Cheyenne, a turboprop aircraft introduced in 1979 by Piper Aircraft, was designed to directly compete with the Beechcraft King Air series. Drawing from the design of its predecessor, the PA-31T Cheyenne, the new model was named Cheyenne III. Simultaneously, Piper aimed to enter the light business jet market, upgrading the engines to twin Honeywell TPE331-14s, generating 1,000 hp. The resulting P-42-1000, also known as the Cheyenne IV, made its public debut in 1984. The aircraft underwent several name changes, initially dubbed Cheyenne 400 due to its top speed exceeding 400 mph. It later became the 400LS, referencing Lear Siegler, Piper Aircraft’s owner at the time. Notably, the PA-42 Cheyenne 400LS remains the largest aircraft manufactured by Piper to date.
