Piper Cub

The Piper J-3 Cub, a light aircraft manufactured by Piper Aircraft, primarily serves as a flight trainer. The design underwent modifications from the earlier Taylor E-2 Cub, a process marked by heated discussions between the company’s president, C. G. Taylor, leading engineer W. Jamouneau, and W.T. Piper. To resolve the conflicts, Piper ultimately purchased all of Taylor’s shares, leading to the production of the initial J-2 model. Following a destructive fire at the Piper factory, Jamouneau swiftly initiated further developments, resulting in the creation of the J-3 for production. The airframe underwent structural changes, culminating in a straightforward and cost-effective aircraft that quickly gained traction in the aviation market. Produced in large quantities, the J-3 Cub found extensive use as a flight trainer and served various military roles during World War II.
