Sikorsky Ch-124 Sea King

The Sikorsky CH-124 Sea King stands as a twin-engined anti-submarine warfare (ASW) and utility helicopter, manufactured by Sikorsky Aircraft specifically for the Royal Canadian Navy. As advancements in attack submarines, particularly the widespread use of nuclear-powered vessels in the 1950s, necessitated more sophisticated anti-submarine measures, the Royal Canadian Navy (RCN) explored the deployment of ASW helicopters from a landing platform on a modified frigate. While initially successful, challenges arose under harsh weather conditions, prompting the need for a lighter, more capable aircraft. Consequently, production for the Sikorsky CH-124 Sea King commenced in 1961. The Sea King remained in service until 2018.
