McDonnell Douglas MD-11

The McDonnell Douglas MD-11 is a wide-body airliner manufactured by McDonnell Douglas and subsequently acquired by Boeing. The development of this substantial airliner began after the completion of the DC-10 design, in late 1986. While maintaining the trijet configuration of the DC-10, the MD-11 featured a significantly wider and longer fuselage. The introduction of a glass cockpit allowed the aircraft to be operated by a crew of two, eliminating the need for a flight engineer on board. Production of the MD-11 commenced under McDonnell and Douglas, transitioning to Boeing after the companies merged in 1997.
