The Airbus A318, the smallest and rarest airliner in the Airbus A320 family, is a low-wing cantilever monoplane with a conventional tail unit featuring a single vertical stabilizer and rudder. It has a narrow-body (single-aisle) design with a retractable tricycle landing gear and is powered by two wing pylon-mounted turbofan engines. The A318 is over six meters shorter and around 6,600 pounds lighter than the A320. To compensate for the reduced moment arm, it incorporates a larger vertical stabilizer, and the final design includes a fin tip extension, making it taller than other A320 variants. Pilots trained on other A320 variants can fly the A318 without additional certification due to the common flight deck and type rating.
