Bell OH-58

The Bell OH-58 Kiowa stands as a family of single-engine, single-rotor military helicopters employed for observation, utility, and direct fire support. Bell Helicopter manufactured the OH-58 for the United States Army, drawing on its Model 206A JetRanger helicopter. Bell had previously engaged in competition with 12 other companies as part of a proposal by the United States Navy to develop a light observation helicopter but fell short against rival companies. Nevertheless, this led to the production of the Bell 206A, ultimately winning the re-opened competition in 1967. The aircraft was designated as the OH-58A by the U.S. Army, and following established naming conventions, it was given the Kiowa designation as well.
