The Aeritalia G.222 (formerly Alenia Aeronautica) is a medium-sized military transport aircraft renowned for its capability of short take-offs and landings. As a twin turboprop-engine aircraft, it excels in transporting equipment or troops in combat zones, requiring minimal ground support thanks to features like double-slotted flaps, stacked brakes, and reversible propellers.
The G.222’s versatile cargo deck can accommodate nearly 20,000 lbs of cargo, up to 53 troops, 32 paratroopers, or a maximum of 36 stretchers with six attending medics. With a large rear ramp facilitating quick loading and unloading of palletized goods and vehicles, the aircraft’s landing gear height can be manually adjusted to accommodate various cargo types. Sliding doors on both sides of the fuselage provide paratroopers easy deployment options.
