The Bell OH-58 Kiowa (later CH-136 Kiowa) is a family of single-engine, single-rotor, military helicopters used for observation, utility, and direct fire support. Bell Helicopter manufactured the OH-58 for the United States Army based on its Model 206A JetRanger helicopter, for a competition proposed by the U.S. Navy. In 1967, the competition was re-opened, with Bell subsequently winning the title. The aircraft was designated as the OH-58A by the U.S. Army, and following timely naming conventions was given the Kiowa designation as well./// The OH-58D was a later variant in the Kiowa family, with upgraded transmission, a glass cockpit, more advanced engine, and four-blade main rotor installed to reduce noise. The OH-58D Kiowa Warrior introduced the distinctive Mast-Mounted Sight (MMS) above the rotor system.
