Bell Oh-58D Kiowa Warrior

The Bell OH-58 Kiowa, later designated CH-136 Kiowa, constitutes a family of single-engine, single-rotor military helicopters deployed for observation, utility, and direct fire support. Bell Helicopter manufactured the OH-58 for the United States Army, basing it on its Model 206A JetRanger helicopter, initially proposed in a U.S. Navy competition. In 1967, the competition reopened, resulting in Bell securing the title. The aircraft was designated as the OH-58A by the U.S. Army, and adhering to established naming conventions, it was also given the Kiowa designation. The OH-58D emerged as a later variant in the Kiowa family, featuring an upgraded transmission, a glass cockpit, an advanced engine, and a four-blade main rotor to reduce noise. The OH-58D Kiowa Warrior introduced the distinctive Mast-Mounted Sight (MMS) above the rotor system.
