Introduced in the early 2000s, the Bombardier Challenger 850 emerged as a variant of the Challenger 800, a product of Bombardier Aerospace. The original Challenger 800 held the distinction of being the largest super-midsize business jet ever manufactured by the company. The design of the initial Challenger 800 was based on the now-discontinued CRJ200 LR regional airliner. With a vision to create a luxurious corporate business jet, the aircraft’s general construction retained the CRJ200 airframe features, including a retractable landing gear, twin General Electric CF34-3B1 engines mounted on the rear fuselage, and a glass cockpit. The updated variant, Challenger 850, commenced production in 2006, offering various layouts from commuter to executive, accommodating 14-16 passengers in the latter configuration. The Challenger 850 jet is optimized for high-speed transcontinental operations.
