The Viking Air DHC-6 Twin Otter, formerly known as the De Havilland Canada DHC-6 Twin Otter, is a versatile 19-passenger utility aircraft renowned for its Short Takeoff and Landing (STOL) capabilities. The development of this new line commenced in 1964, drawing inspiration from the preceding single-engine DHC-3 designs. The DHC-6 Twin Otter gained popularity across various sectors, serving as a medevac aircraft, commuter passenger or cargo airliner, and frequently utilized for skydiving. Its success can be attributed to features like the fixed tricycle undercarriage, twin Pratt & Whitney PT6A-20 turboprop engines, and impressive rate of climb.
In addition to its civilian applications, a military variant known as the UV-18A Twin Otter was developed specifically for the U.S. Army Alaska National Guard, which procured six models under this designation.
