The De Havilland Canada DHC-6 Twin Otter, now known as the Viking Air DHC-6 Twin Otter, is a 19-passenger utility aicraft with STOL performance. The development of the new line started in 1964, with designs based on the predecessing single-engine DHC-3. The line became popular in several sectors, such as medevac aircraft, commuter passenger or cargo airliner, and often used for skydiving. The success came by as a result of the the DHC-6 Twin Otter’s fixed tricycle undercarriage, twin Pratt & Whitney PT6A-20 turboprop engines and high rate of climb. The DHC-6 -200 models have gone through some minor changes, such as improving on STOL performance, extending the nose of the aircraft to allow for additional space for storing luggage, and a larger door in the rear.
