The Eurocopter AS355 Écureuil 2 is a twin-engine light utility helicopter. Originally conceived and manufactured by Aérospatiale and Eurocopter, it is currently produced by Airbus Helicopters. In response to the limited commercial success of their Gazelle aircraft in the 1970s, Aérospatiale recognized the demand for a civil-oriented aircraft. Consequently, they embarked on the development of an economical and affordable rotorcraft, resulting in the single-engine AS350 Écureuil. Subsequently, the firm decided to introduce the twin-engine variant, named the AS355 Écureuil 2, which underwent further development. Among the latest additions to the family is the AS355 N, boasting enhanced performance with two Turbomeca Arrius A1 engines and a FADEC system to increase the maximum takeoff weight.
