The Eurocopter AS355 Écureuil 2 is a twin-engine light utility helicopter initially designed and manufactured by Aérospatiale and Eurocopter. Presently, Airbus Helicopters is responsible for its production. Aérospatiale recognized the demand for a civil-focused aircraft in the 1970s, prompted by the limited success of their Gazelle aircraft in the commercial market. Consequently, the company embarked on developing an economical and practical rotorcraft, resulting in the creation of the single-engine AS350 Écureuil. Subsequently, the decision was made to introduce a twin-engine variant, known as the AS355 Écureuil 2, which underwent further enhancements. In 2007, a new iteration called the AS355 NP was introduced, featuring an upgraded gearbox and twin Turbomeca Arrius 1A1 engines to achieve a higher Maximum Takeoff Weight (MTOW).
