Hughes Hughes Aircraft, Hughes Helicopters 500

The Hughes Model 500, later re-designated as the MD 500 by MD Helicopters upon taking over production, stands as a versatile light utility helicopter catering to both civilian and military applications. Originating as a civilian adaptation of the Hughes OH-6 Cayuse, the Model 500 emerged when it became evident that the military variant was not meeting sales expectations. This rotorcraft, available in five or seven-seat configurations, boasts a spacious cabin and received certification in 1966. Its initial powerplant was the Allison 250-C18B.

Red Box is delighted to present an extensive range of ground power and support equipment tailored for the Hughes 500 aircraft. Our offerings encompass tugs, ground power units, start power units and more, perfectly suited to meet the unique requirements of the Hughes 500.

Included in our offerings is the 701D tug, the RBPS50 continuous power unit, ideal for diagnostic work, pre-flight checks, or continuous powering of equipment during operations without draining the onboard aircraft batteries, and the RB50A for starting the aircraft, aiding in avoiding hot starts.
