Hughes Hughes Aircraft, Hughes Helicopters Md500

The Hughes Model 500, later re-designated as the MD 500 by MD Helicopters upon taking over production, is a versatile light utility helicopter designed for both civilian and military applications. Originating as a civilian version of the Hughes OH-6 Cayuse, the Hughes 500 emerged when it became evident that the military variant was not meeting sales expectations. The Model 500 is offered in configurations with five or seven seats, featuring a spacious cabin. Certified in 1966, the rotorcraft initially utilized an Allison 250-C18B powerplant.
