The Airbus A321, an elongated version of its A320 family predecessor, features a narrow-body (single-aisle) design with a retractable tricycle landing gear and is powered by two wing pylon-mounted turbofan engines. As a low-wing cantilever monoplane, it incorporates a conventional tail unit with a single vertical stabilizer and rudder. With a capacity to carry up to 236 passengers, the A321 shares a common type rating with all other Airbus A320-family variants, enabling pilots experienced in flying other models within the A320 family to operate the aircraft without additional training.
To maintain the performance of its predecessor, the A321 underwent modifications, including the addition of double-slotted flaps and minor trailing edge adjustments that increased the wing area. Furthermore, the centre fuselage and undercarriage were reinforced to accommodate the higher maximum takeoff weight.
