Boeing KC-46

The Boeing KC-46 Pegasus was developed from the predecessing 767 jetliner model, as a military aerial refueling and strategic transport aircraft. The U.S. Air Force announced a requirement for an aerial refueling aircraft, under the KC-X tanker project designation. Boeing proposed their KC-767 tanker development for this purpose, which subsequently won the competition in 2011, then got renamed KC-46A under the U.S. Air Force. Most of the original features of the 767 were retained in the KC-46, including a conventional tail and retractable tricycle landing gear. A hydraulic flight control system was encorporated in the design, and the Pratt & Whitney PW4062 engines were chosen to power the aircraft. The first deliveries were completed in 2019, with more KC-46A’s on order at present.
