The Saab 340 is a twin-engine turboprop aircraft, developed and produced by Saab AB of Sweden, later by Fairchild Aircraft. Prior to the design of this aircraft, Saab AB became interested in submitting an aircraft to the civil aviation market, wanting to address the contemporary demand for a short-haul airliner with the capacity for at least 30 passengers. It was agreed that the aircraft is to utilise turboprop propulsion, for which twin Electric CT7 engines were selected. The Saab 340 was produced for less then 5 years, before productions were ceased, as the company shifted their focus on the more promising Saab 2000 derivative.
